The Florence Biennale dell’Antiquariato, forever aware of the needs of Italy’s cultural heritage, has added a prize for decorative arts and design to the two traditional prizes for sculpture and painting.
The Scientific Commission will select the one it deems most deserving from all the objects on display at the exhibition

The Scientific Committee of the 33rd Florence International Biennial of Antiques has decided to award the Decorative Arts and Design Prize to the pair of statuary marble vases by Giacomo Raffaelli (Rome, 1753–1836) and Nicola De Vecchis (Rome, documented 1795–1834), presented at the ALESSANDRA DI CASTRO stand.

Pair of statuary marble vases with acanthus-leaf wreaths modelled in relief on the lower section and around the upper neck, and vertical fluting running the full height of the bodies. At the centre, a large circular micromosaic roundel depicting griffins drinking from kraters, garlands supported by bucrania, and birds alternating with blue-ground medallions featuring altars and small temples. Porphyry bases.
